This parable made me think of homeless people. When I see them panhandling for money. I have to make a choice to give or not. If I give it is up to them to do with it as they will. But I am sewing the seed and hopefully they will see it as God working in their lives. I will never know or need to know. Just pray for them. I am currently planning a medical mission trip in October and am praying that God will use me to sew the seed in many I meet.
I think that these parables mean that you reap what you sow. If you sow the word of God, then you will get rewards. You will get his love, forgiveness, and Grace. I wonder how many of us do this daily? If you sow bad things in your life, then you will end up not knowing the meaning of Jesus. You are right ,Emily, there are a lot of meanings to these parables. I ought to know.
I think these parables in all of their layers represent the various seasons of our lives. Sometimes we are on the inner circle when everything is clear ahead of us. Sometimes we are on the rocky path and get scorched because our trust and understanding hasn't gotten enough foundation and root. And all along the various paths with all of our wisdom and insight we still easily fall back to fear and old habits just like the disciples in the boat in the storm.
We are called to sow, to share the love and forgiveness of Christ Jesus. What may come of that love is not up to us, nor can we control it.
ReplyDeleteBlessed be our God whose love works even through our imperfection.
