Reflection question: What do you think Jesus means in verse 30 when he says, "It is finished." Many things are finished in that moment. What do you think that sentence is about?
The burdensome system of offering sacrifices daily for sins was over. I think that the statement "It is finished" meant that Jesus paid it all in full. No more sacrifices, mo more striving to constantly wonder if sin was forgiven. Jesus's death removed any doubt. He was the sin offering for us and came to finish God's plan for salvation, How fortunate I feel to be able to live post resurrection so I don't have to keep striving with sacrifices and wondering if enough is enough to remove the sin.
I think of many things when Jesus says "It is finished". First I think of how his suffering is finally over. I am always amazed that Jesus suffered as he did for me. It was an awful ordeal that I can't even imagine how awful, painful, and hurtful for the people he came to save to turn against him. Second the purpose of his coming was finally fulfilled. He came to suffer and die for the sins of the world. He was the ultimate sacrifice. He loves us so much and nothing I do will change that.
