John, Chapter 15

Reflection question: Verse 12 states, "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you."

Jesus could say anything in his final days of life - he chooses love. Why?

  1. The word "Love" is used nine times in this chapter. I think Jesus chooses "Love" because if we love then the problems of the world are so much less and our lives will be so full of purpose and life. An example would be if we "love" by volunteering at the local food shelter, we show God's love for others and have a purpose. Helping others always helps us also. We feel better. We aren't focused on "me" but on others. I liked verses 4 and 5, "No branch can bear fruit by itself," "apart from me you can do nothing". We have to remain in Christ to accomplish anything. Verse 22 was also interesting. "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin." I am not sure what this means. Does it mean that those who have never heard of Christ will be excused by God on the day of judgement because they never had the chance to hear of him? Or are those who never hear damned as I have always been taught. Please someone share your thoughts on this.
