Reflection question: The final chapter of the Gospel of Mark comes in different forms. The shorter ending concludes with, "So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone for they were afraid." The oldest manuscripts end here.
There are two alternative endings both include accounts of Jesus' resurrection.
Each ending is powerful - but each in their own way.
What do you find most meaningful today about the end of the Gospel of Mark? How do you think a reader/listener should feel by the end?

The three words "He is Risen" almost get lost in the account. I can only imagine that the women were afraid. But if they said nothing to anyone and it ended there, how would word of his rising be passed on to the rest of the world...us. I am not sure how I feel at then end of this Gosple. It seemed to go so fast. How should I feel? Amazed like the women, but not afraid. Chirst is died and rose for me. I can't beleive this is the end of our blog. Want to do another book of the bible?
ReplyDeleteI think that the most meaningful for me is the rising of our Lord from the dead. The fact that Jesus died and rose for our sins is really all the meaning I need in the ending. The reader or listener should feel excited and full of joy for what Jesus went through for us; saving us from eternal damnation. "He is Risen!"
