Reflection question: In this version of the feeding of the 5000, there is a young boy who helps! He supplies the food. Why is this detail special? What does it teach us?
It is special because it shows that though the boy had only 5 loaves of bread, he was willing to share them with the people. It teaches no matter how much we have or how little have, it's good to share with the Lord. I think God loves people who share. It shows that that have a good heart and that it's full of love.
Maybe this detail is provided to remind us that when we offer up what we have to God's service(though it may seem small!), He can turn it into something colossal! Thanks for pointing this out...I read right over this gem initially.
I agree with the above. If we give what we can how ever small God works it for good. There is lots of Jesus teaching in this chapter. I love Verse 27 "Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life." And verse 29 "The work of God is this: To believe in the one he has sent". That is all we have to do. Believe! And then In verse 44, "No one can come to me unless the Father draws him." And in verse 65, "no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him". What a comforting thought that God draws me to him.
