John, Chapter 11

Reflection question: This is one of my favorite chapters of the gospel of John.  I love verse 44, "The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."  There are things that keep all of us bound-up and closed-in. But Jesus seeks ways to free us from anything that would hold us back. What do you like about this chapter?

  1. I like the fact even though we are bound up and closed in, we have a chance to become free through faith and prayer. I love the fact Jesus loves everyone. Bill.

  2. Wow, so much to love in this chapter! Verses 9 and 10: love the reference to walking in the light of the sun (Son!!) so we don't stumble. Verses 20-27: Ever-practical Martha, so easy to identify with, ROCK STARS it in this little vignette with Jesus, affirming her faith so boldly. What a role model! Verse 35: Jesus' tears are nearly unbearable. His vulnerability breaks my heart. He not only understands, but FEELS the predicament we humans are in. This verse especially gives me hope and comfort. I think it's fear that keeps me closed in. I guess I need to hear Jesus shout, "Patty, come out!" I sometimes think my ears must be decorative only (and not too attractive at that!).
